Val di Fiemme With its deeply rooted mountain and ski traditions, Valle di Fiemme competes for the Nordic Ski World Championship 2003. Endless snow fun in Valle di Fiemme: slopes, cross-country skiing tracks stretching for miles, skiing schools, ice stadium and a ski jumping. What else is needed to become venue of the next Nordic Skiing World Championship? The Avisio river flows along the valley which stretches from east to west between the Lagorai range in the south and the Latemar in the north. The landscape is chiefly alpine, characterized by the fine prospect of high peaks, luxuriant tree-clad mountain slopes and the rapid waters of the Avisio river flowing along the bottom of the valley. The population´s attachment to their land and deep-rooted inclination for independence gave birth to the "Magnifica Comunità della Val di Fiemme". This is an institution which dates back to the 12th century and is manifested in the Palazzo della Magnifica Comunità in Cavalese. For its size (about 4,000 hectares), the animals living in it and the quality of its wood, the Paneveggio forest is considered to be one of the most important and beautiful in Italy and in Europe. Thanks to the beauty of the environment, Valle di Fiemme has become one of the main tourist resorts in the province of Trento. [source:
